An ultrasound examination, is a non-invasive imaging technique that allows internal body structures to be seen by recording echoes or reflections of ultrasonic waves. Unlike X-rays, ultrasounds involve no radiation. We have the capability to implement Thoracic and Abdominal FAST (focused assessment with sonography for trauma) Scans. A brief but critical procedure that detects the presence of fluid in the abdominal or thoracic cavity to allow for rapid therapeutic intervention (e.g., fluid resuscitation, abdominocentesis, cytology, clinicopathologic testing).

Will My Pet Need an Anesthetic?
Anesthesia is not usually needed for most ultrasound examinations. The technique is totally painless and most dogs or cats will lie comfortably while the scan is being performed. Occasionally, if the pet is very frightened or fractious, a sedative may be necessary.
